A drawing of Judas Maccabeus, standing, full length, dressed in armour; his left arm is raised, pointing, and his right hand is holding his shield which rests on the ground beside his helmet; in the background there are two armies in battle, with their camps on either side in the distance. This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp, 1577).
