A drawing of Nehemiah standing, full length, in a landscape. He is turned to the left, and holds a large book under his left arm. The town in the background may be intended to represent Jerusalem, for the rebuilding of which he was responsible. Inscribed below: . NEHEMIAS . 8(?). This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp, 1577).
