A drawing of Caleb standing, full length, with arms outstretched in a landscape. A large bunch of grapes is held suspended from his right hand; these presumably refer to the bunch cut by the children of Israel in the Valley of Eshcol. Inscribed below: . CALEB . , and lower left: 25. This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp, 1577).
