A drawing of Aaron standing, full length, in a landscape, beside a burning altar; he wears a jewelled ephod and other priestly garments, and holds a knife and a covered dish in his right hand; behind him, to the right, are a cow and a goat, and in the left foreground arrows and a quiver lie at the base of the altar. Inscribed below in the centre (partially cut): . ARON . , and to the right, in leadpoint: AARON. This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp 1577).
