A drawing of Jacob and the Angel, full length, standing and grappling with eachother in a landscape setting; behind them is the stream and in the background a procession of animals and figures, presumably the family of Jacob, moving to the right; with a partially cut inscription below: . JACOB . This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp 1577).
