A drawing of Lot with a staff in his right hand and a bundle under his left arm; he is being led by an angel, with outstretched wings, to the left; behind, on the right, one of Lot's daughters with a bundle on her head is followed by the other; in the background the city of Sodom is on fire. Signed in the lower right corner: CVDB (mongram with a reversed D); there are traces of a cut inscription below. This drawing is from a series of thirty four scenes from the Old Testament which, with the exception of RCIN 904742, served as preparatory drawings for 33 of the 39 engravings in reverse by Johannes Sadeler the Elder (Hollstein , XXI, pp.96-7, nos.72-110), designed to illustrate L.Hillesemius, Sacrarum Antiquitatum (Antwerp 1577).
