A study of boy seated to right, a drawing board on his lap, with another study of his right hand. This is a study for an etching of Cosimo drawing the antique 'Medici Vase' (de Vesme 832, Jombert 189), dated 1656. Stefano was Cosimo's drawing master at this time, having accompanied him to Rome in the 1650s. Cosimo was heir to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and succeeded his father, Ferdinando II de' Medici as Grand Duke in 1670.
Other studies on the verso can be seen showing through the paper.Provenance
