St Lawrence led away to martyrdom

A drawing of St Lawrence surrounded and manhandled by soldiers and armed tormentors. The throned prefect in shadow on the left gives directions. This is one of seven known studies preparatory to a series of fourteen paintings on the subject of the Life of St Lawrence for the church of S Lorenzo in Piscibus, now in the Calasanctianum, Rome.
