A drawing of a landscape setting at the centre of which Gideon stands removing the fleece from the tree, below which a large urn rests; behind to the right figures sleep. There is a rake and a pitchfork lying in the foreground. Oval format. This is one of two studies for the painting in the Sala Augusta, Palazzo Quirinale, Rome. See also RCIN 904537.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 111 '...Gideon with the Fleece. Two drawings suppos'd by Filippo Laura...')
