A drawing of two allegorical figures, both holding sceptres, in flight. A study for the cartoon of the Election of Urban VIII by Cristofani, one of the cycle of ten tapestries on the life of Urban VIII, woven in the Barberini tapestry workshop in Rome between 1663 and 1679, on the orders of the Pope's nephew, Cardinal Francesco Barberini. Formerly attributed to Gaulli.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 111, as amongst works by Pietro da Cortona and Ciro Ferri)
