A drawing of an angel pointing heavenward as he leads a child by the arm. This is a composition study for the painting in the Galleria Nazionale, Rome, which was commissioned by Alexander VII and paid for in July 1656. There is an earlier drawing of the same subject in the Toronto Art Gallery of Ontario.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv. A, p. 111: 'A : Guardian Angel')
