A saint with three pilgrims
-
A drawing of a saint, standing with his right hand raised, as he addresses three pilgrims standing on the left. In the foreground a mother watches as she kneels with her child.
RCIN 904414, 904415 and 904417 come from a volume containing drawings by Pietro de Pietri, Masucci, and other followers of Carlo Maratta. The figure types recall those in the painting of the Cessation of the Schism of Anacletus at Dijon (see RCIN 905661).Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv. A, p.110: among 33 'Drawings of Pietro de Petris. Massuci and other Scholars of Carlo Maratti, excepting one Caricatura by Ghezzi')
