A drawing of the Madonna, three-quarter length. She looks down at an angel who proffers the Crown of Thorns. Golgotha is in the distance, left, beneath which three female figures walk to the right.This is an exact copy of the composition by Maratta engraved by Bartolomeus de Petri.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inventory A, p. 110: from the volume containing drawings by Passeri, Pietro de Pietri and Masucci)
