A drawing of the figure of a soldier standing and looking up to the right, copied after a bas-relief of Marcus Aurelius, in the Capitoline Museum. The Royal Collection has eighteen drawings by Maratti and his studio, after antique sculpture (B(R) 373-392). Some of these are engraved in Jan de Bisschop's Signorum Veterum Icones, c.1672-89.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: 'Study's from Antique Basso Relievo's')
