A studio drawing after the Apollo Belvedere in the Vatican, viewed from the front. See also RCIN 904117.The Royal Collection has eighteen drawings by Maratti after antique sculpture (B(R) 373-392). Some of these are engraved in Jan de Bisschop's Signorum Veterum Icones, c.1672-89.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: amongst fifteen studies 'From the Ancient Statues')
