A drawing of a group of figures standing around a sacred tripod, outside a temple; including priests and a man with an axe holding a sacrificial bull. Copied after the relief of Marcus Aurelius sacrificing before The Temple of Jupiter, in the Palazzo dei Conservatori. The Royal Collection has eighteen drawings by Maratti and his studio, after antique sculpture (B(R) 373-392). Some of these are engraved in Jan de Bisschop's Signorum Veterum Icones, c.1672-89. Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: 'Study's from Antique Basso Relievo's')
