Recto: a drawing of the Magdalene, half length, holding a crucifix(?). Below is an infant's head, and to the right is a skull with a hand resting upon it. This may be a preliminary study for the composition engraved by Audenaerd. The child's head is possibly connected with one of the putti who look down at the Magdalene. Verso: a drawing of the crucified Christ, without the cross, viewed from the right.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: 'Study for a Magdalen')
