Description

A drawing of Venus, recumbent on a bed as she suckles Cupid from her breast. Having parted the overhanging drapery, Vulcan steps onto the bed from the left.

Provenance

Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: 'Venus Cupid and Vulcan')
