A drawing after the figure of Saturn from a fresco by Polidoro da Caravaggio, formerly on the façade of a palazzo in the Via della Maschera d'Oro, Rome. Saturn stands almost naked with his scythe at his side; he holds an infant in his right arm, with the child's hand in his mouth. See also RCIN 904328.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: 'A Janus & Saturn')
