Studies of helmets, sandals and a standing figure
-
A sheet of studies after details from Raphael's fresco of Constantine addressing his army, in the Stanza di Costantino, Vatican, Rome. The figure on the left is of a page, holding a plumed helmet; the foot resting on the helmet is from the soldier standing next to the page; the helmet on the right is copied after that held aloft by a dwarf on the right of the composition.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: Tom. V, 'Almost all this Volume are Study's from Raphael')
