A drawing after the figures of two women from the tapestry of the Presentation in the Temple, designed by Raphael, hanging in the Scuola nuova, Vatican, Rome. They stand in profile on the left of the composition, behind the Virgin. See also RCIN 904300, 904309, 904310.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: Tom. V, 'NB.- All these from the Tapestry's at Rome work'd from the designs of Raphael of which the seven famous Cartoons now in the Queens Pallace are the only remaining ones.')
