A drawing after the figure of the Virgin from the tapestry of the Presentation in the Temple, designed by Raphael, hanging in the Scuola nuova, Vatican, Rome. She walks to the right holding the baby Jesus in her arms; the drawing is unfinished. See also RCIN 904300, 904309, 904311.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: 'Two from the Presentation at the Temple')
