A sheet of detail studies after figures from the tapestry of the Presentation in the Temple, designed by Raphael, hanging in the Scuola nuova, Vatican, Rome. The two males heads appear on the extreme right; the lower leg and foot belongs to the female figure carrying doves; the bearded head and the frontally posed foot are after the figure of Joseph; See also RCIN 904309, 904310, 904311.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: Tom. V, 'NB.- All these from the Tapestry's at Rome work'd from the designs of Raphael of which the seven famous Cartoons now in the Queens Pallace are the only remaining ones.')
