A drawing after two figures from Raphael's fresco, the School of Athens in the Stanza della Segnatura, Vatican, Rome. The young man on the left sits busily writing in a book, whilst the other stands leaning over the base of a pilaster. See also RCIN 904252, 904254-904256, 904258-904260.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 109: Tom. IV, 'Contains Forty two Drawings in Red Chalk, after the Paintings of Raphael in the Vatican at Rome')
