A study for the head and the upper half of the figure of Venus
-
A drawing of a young woman, her body turned towards the right, and her head turned three quarters to the left; a study for the figure of Venus in the painting La Tintura della Rosa, in the Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen. A subsequent attribution to Francesco Albani is enhanced by the orientation of the figure suggesting a possible connection with the Rape of Europa, in the Uffizi.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 107)
