A drawing of a king, seated and supporting a book or tablet, This is a studio drawing, possibly an offset, connected with the pendentive mosaics of four prophets and kings, in the third bay, left aisle of St. Peter's, Rome. The mosaics were executed after 1689. RCIN 904182 - 904185 are all probably copies after early designs for the series.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 108: 'King David. Isaiah & two more Prophets, in Angles under a Cupola')
