A portrait drawing of Pope Clement IX, head and shoulders, turned three quarters to the right. The identification of the sitter is based on a drawing of this Pope at Lyons, also attributed to Maratta.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Cardinal Alessandro Albani; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1810 (Inv. A, p. 107: amongst fourteen 'Study's of Heads')
