Andrea Boscoli (1550-1606)
The Supper at Emmaus c.1575-1600
-
A drawing of the Supper at Emmaus, Christ seated at a table with two disciples. The red chalk is blurred due to an offset having been taken onto another damp sheet; the offset is in the Uffizi (inv. 813-F). Inscribed in ink below, Taliarino, which seems to be a transciption of an inscription on the verso, visible through the backing and variously read as 'Del Iaianno', 'Talarino', 'balarino', 'balarmo', though it is unclear which artist this was intended by this. The style is plainly Boscoli's, as recognised by Popham (in P&W).
