A study of a youth 1560-90
Black and white chalks on blue paper, squared in red chalk | 26.6 x 15.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 903613
-
A study of a youth in contemporary costume, stepping forward with a gesture of surprise. Inscribed on the verso (visible in transmitted light), 'Tintoretto', and catalogued by Popham (in P&W) as 'broadly speaking' of his school. Mario Di Giampaolo attributed the drawing to Naldini (note on mount, 1994), most probably correctly - the morphology of the hands, in particular, is characteristic.
Provenance
From an album listed in George III's Inventory A, c.1800, p. 20, ‘Bolognesi Moderni’, tom. 1, not itemised.
