-
A drawing of Narcissus, on one knee as he gazes enraptured at his reflection in the water. The nymph Echo watches him from behind a bush. Narcissus's hounds sit closeby.
Considered to be close to the manner of Palma Giovane, although C. Whistler has suggested that the drawing is not Venetian.Provenance
Probably acquired in 1762 by George III from the collection of Joseph Smith, British Consul in Venice; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c. 1800-20 (Inv.A, p.20, as among 'Bolognesi Moderni')
