After Francesco Albani (Bologna 1578-Bologna 1660)
Ecce Homo (the Repentance of St Peter) c.1650-1700
-
A drawing after Albani's fresco of c.1600-01 in the Oratorio di S. Colombano, Bologna. The sheet was catalogued by Kurz as a study for the fresco, but Weston-Lewis (Master Drawings, 2006, pp. 306-7) pointed out that is is almost certainly a copy after the fresco, of the later seventeenth century, 'reminiscent of the style of Gian Antonio Burrini'.
Provenance
Probably purchased by Richard Dalton on behalf of George III, c.1760. First recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inventory A, p. 20, Tom.I: among 'Bolognesi Moderni')
