Portrait of a woman at the harpsichord c.1600
-
A drawing in black and red chalk of a woman playing the harpsichord.
This drawing is similar in style to a black chalk drawing by Federico Zuccaro, the Portrait of Anton Francesco Doni at the harpsichord (RCIN 990220). In the present drawing the artist employs both black and red chalks. The technique à deux crayons was widely used by Federico in his sketched portraits. Mainly executed from life, they portray friends, family or people he encountered during his travels and show a particularly intimate and domestic aspect of the artist’s life and surroundings.
