After Guido Reni (Bologna 1575-Bologna 1642)
The head of David c.1625-1700
-
A head of a youth, looking to the right. The drawing is a copy after the painting of David in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (S. Pepper, Guido Reni, 1984, no. 67), or after one of the copies of that painting. Kurz (in K(B)) judged the drawing to be a study for the painting, but it is plainly a copy and may date from long after the painting.
Provenance
Listed in George III’s Inventory A, c.1800-20: p. 80, ‘Guido &c. Tom. 4’, among '13 Heads by Various Scholars of Guido’.
