Guido Reni (Bologna 1575-Bologna 1642)
A seated woman c.1610-20
-
A drawing of a seated young woman, in everyday dress, twisting to look up to the left, her right arm outstretched. No such figure can be found in Reni's paintings; Kurz (in K(B)) suggested that she might be a first study for the Virgin in the so-called 'Sewing School' in the Basilica at Loreto, though the resemblance is not particularly close.
Provenance
Listed in George III’s Inventory A, c.1800-20: p. 80, ‘Guido &c. Tom. 4’, among ’18 Studies for Draperies’.
