Guido Reni (Bologna 1575-Bologna 1642)
A seated figure c.1600-1640
-
A drawing of a draped figure, seated to right, looking up to the left.
Probably a study for a ceiling fresco; no exact match is found in Reni's known work, though the figure type and pose are close to figures in his fresco of God in Glory in the Cappella dell'Annuniziata, Palazzo del Quirinale, Rome, of 1610 (S. Pepper, Guido Reni, 1984, no. 33).Provenance
Listed in George III’s Inventory A, c.1800-20: p. 80, ‘Guido &c. Tom. 4’, among ’18 Studies for Draperies’.
