A drawing of a scene at the doorway of a large house, from which the Prodigal Son is being ejected by five women, one armed with a stick and others about to hurl rocks. This composition is based on Jacques Callot's etching, and is one of six drawings in the Royal Collection from Cittadini's cycle of the Parable of the Prodigal Son: RCIN 903268-903273.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III from the collection of Consul Joseph Smith, c.1762; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-20 (Inv.A, p.79: '6 of the Parable of the Prodigal Son, by Millanese, Scholar of Guido')
