A drawing of the Prodigal Son, having dismounted his horse, being recieved at the doorway of a well-appointed house by several women. The Prodigal's servant follows carrying his master's baggage. This is one of six drawings in the Royal Collection, from Cittadini's cycle of the Parable of the Prodigal Son: RCIN 903268-903273.
Provenance
Probably acquired by George III from the collection of Consul Joseph Smith, c.1762; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-20 (Inv.A, p.79: '6 of the Parable of the Prodigal Son, by Millanese, Scholar of Guido')
