A drawing of the head of a man, profile left, looking up. From the Reni sequence, but Mario Di Giampaolo suggested an attribution to Cavedone (note on mount, 1992), with which Ann Sutherland Harris concurred (note on mount, n.d.).
Provenance
Listed in George III’s Inventory A, c.1800-20: p. 79, ‘Teste di Guido. Tom. 1’, among ’51 Heads, as Studies for various Pictures amongst which are some exceeding fine Drawings as large as life, all by Guido Rheni, Bolognese’.
