-
An offset of a drawing of St Jerome, seated beneath a bank surmounted on the right by an overhanging tree. He is seen full length, with his body half turned to the left. He is nude but for a drapery covering his legs and waist. He extends his arm downwards to dip his quill pen into an ink pot placed on a rock. With his right hand he touches an open book lying open on a rock on the left.
This is one of 116 offsets not listed in Inventory A (RCIN 903079-903195). The following note in an old, but later, hand is found overleaf on p. 72 of the inventory: 'There appears to be no Catalogue of the drawings of Guercino, termed off-tracts contained in Volumes XV & XVI of his Works.'Provenance
Benedetto and Cesare Gennari; from whose descendants purchased by Richard Dalton for George III, c.1758-63
