After Guercino (Cento 1591-Bologna 1666)
The Blessed Felix of Cantalice accompanied by another Capuchin friar c. 1700-50
-
An offset of a drawing of three-quarter length figures: the Blessed Felix of Cantalice bends forwards, extending his left hand to the left as if grasping at an object. With his right hand he holds a sack which is slung over his shoulder; behind him and to the right another Capuchin stands with both hands raised up in wonderment.
This offset is related to a painting of this subject, now lost, for which RCIN 902890 was an autograph study. RCIN 903129, together with two others (RCIN 903155, 903037) are important for the evidence they provide towards understanding the evolution of the composition of the painting.
This is one of 116 offsets not listed in Inventory A (RCIN 903079-903195). The following note in an old, but later, hand is found overleaf on p. 72 of the inventory: 'There appears to be no Catalogue of the drawings of Guercino, termed off-tracts contained in Volumes XV & XVI of his Works.'Provenance
Benedetto and Cesare Gennari; from whose descendants purchased by Richard Dalton for George III, c.1758-63
