An offset of a drawing of the Madonna, seated half length on the left, holding a cup into which she is about to place some small object. In front of her is the Christ Child, with his back half turned away from the viewer. The infant Baptist, seated next to him on the right, looks up at the Madonna and holds his reed cross upright in his left hand.

Benedetto and Cesare Gennari; from whose descendants purchased by Richard Dalton for George III, c.1758-63; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv.A, p.69: 'Virgin Mary & St. John')
