A drawing of St John the Baptist, half length, facing the viewer and looking downwards; with his hands folded in front of his body. There are faint indications of a reed cross held against his right shoulder.
Provenance
Bequeathed by the artist to Benedetto and Cesare Gennari; from whose descendants purchased by Richard Dalton for George III, c.1758-63; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv.A, p.68, as one of a group of 42 drawings originally laid down in vol. XII and not itemized: 'mostly Heads, and some few half length single Figures' [this group comprises RCIN 902921 to 902962 inclusive])
