A composition drawing of half-length figures in which the angel is standing on the left, in profile to the right, rousing Elijah with his left hand and pointing with his right to a flask and a platter; Elijah, lying on the right, is in the act of raising his head from his arms to look at the angel.
Provenance
Bequeathed by the artist to Benedetto and Cesare Gennari; from whose descendants purchased by Richard Dalton for George III, c.1758-63; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv.A, p.68: 'The Angel bringing nourishment and waking the Prophet Elijah')
