Pen and wash | 20.2 x 29.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 902785
-
A drawing of the head and shoulders of God the Father at the centre, looking downwards and with his right hand resting on a globe; to the left is a putto standing amongst clouds; to the right are two heads of putti, and at bottom right is an angel seen from the waist up. A study possibly connected with the altarpiece, Christ Appearing to St Teresa, in the Musée at Aix-en-Provence.
Provenance
Bequeathed by the artist to Benedetto and Cesare Gennari; from whose descendants purchased by Richard Dalton for George III, c.1758-63; first recorded in a Royal Collection inventory of c.1800-1820 (Inv.A, p.66, where the drawing seems to have been described, in error, as a 'Pietà with Angels'.)
