Parmigianino (Parma 1503-Casalmaggiore 1540)
A scene in an encampment c.1530
-
A drawing of women apparently with dead or wounded men in front of an encampment. Another drawing by the artist apparently of the same subject is in Melbourne, though the presence of tents in the Windsor drawing makes the traditional identification of the Melbourne drawing as The Death of Orpheus unlikely.
Provenance
Formerly mounted in an album of drawings by the Carracci and their school.
