Two drawings of a right hand holding a book, with the index finger between the pages; a left hand holding a pair of spectacles. The first two drawings are studies for the right hand of the Virgin in The Annunciation, a fresco on the left of the arch separating the nave from the choir and altar in the abbey church of Santa Maria, Grottaferrata. This fresco forms part of the cycle representing episodes in the lives of the founding Saints Nilus and Bartholomew.
This is one of 75 sheets of studies in the Royal Collection related to the Grottaferrata fresco cycle.Provenance
