Set of three tapestry panels after designs by Herbert Bone, depicting historical figures: .1 Joan of Arc, .2 St Agnes, and .3 Richard Coeur de Lyon. They were woven at the Royal Windsor Tapestry Manufactory. These may originally have been mounted into a screen which was used in the apartments of Queen Victoria.
Bone's sketches for designs, now in the Royal Library, include Jeanne d’Arc (RL32114), Vittoria Colonna (RL32115), Savonarola (RL32116), and Richard Coeur de Lion (RL32110).
Designed by Herbert Bone in 1881 as part of a set of six mosaics depicting saints and historic figures to be used by the Venetian lawyer and glassmaker, Dr Antonio Salviati. It seems that Salviati did not use the designs for the mosaics; the tapestries appear later. Others panels from the series are in the collections of the V&A and the National Trust. -
