A Chinese porcelain stem cup with rounded, spreading sides, pedestal foot and unglazed, concave base. Painted round the outside in blue outline and wash are branches of pine, prunus and bamboo (Three Friends of Winter), with a double blue ring round the foot.
Similar stem cups with other designs have been recovered from the so-called ‘Hatcher Cargo’ in the South China Sea, datable to around 1643.
