A chiaroscuro woodcut by Ugo da Carpi reproducing a preparatory drawing in the Devonshire collection (inv. no.150), attributed to Giovanni Francesco Penni, for the almost entirely destroyed fresco The Resurrection painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the thirteenth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Annotated 'P.mariette 1692' at top right; an unidentified collector's mark (not in Lugt) at bottom right. Trimmed to image.
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs. -
