A photograph of a pen and ink drawing in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle (RCIN 912731) considered a copy after a drawing in the British Museum (inv. no.1861.0608,150; see RCIN 853638 for a photograph of this drawing), attributed to Giovanni Francesco Penni, for the fresco The Baptism of Christ painted by the workshop of Raphael (c. 1517-19) in the vault of the thirteenth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican.
Ruland (1876) catalogued this Royal Collection drawing as the 'original' sketch for the loggia fresco, and listed the British Museum drawing as the copy. Popham (see Bibliographic References) recognised that it was the Royal Collection drawing which copied that in the British Museum, and that the British Museum one was previously in the collection of the King of Holland. Dacos (see Bibliographic References) attributes the British Museum drawing to Raffaellino del Colle.Provenance
